Despite the closure of BECTA in 2011, the schools market continues to be a rich hunting ground for ICT suppliers.

The ICT curriculum was recently overhauled so that schools will now teach digital literacy, IT and computer science. This keeps the market for PC hardware and solutions moving. Online learning platforms, teaching software and technologies to promote pupil interaction are on the rise.

The introduction of academies also presents new targets for IT firms – in 2010 there were just 203 academies in England; that number reached 1635 by the middle of 2012!

At the higher education level, the Government’s desire to see R&D pull the UK from recession has seen multimillion pound investments made throughout 2012 into University science and research activity. Naturally, ICT suppliers are keen to get their hands on an element of this funding.
